Welcome all, and in this post, I’m going to post a little history of MAN LUNCH!
When did Man Lunch start you say?
Freshman Year, Spring Semester. Four guys. Tyler Schoenberger, Nate Mansor, Chuck Walters, and Myself.
We decided that we should take at least one day out of the week (it was two days for a few weeks) and dedicate it to being a MAN. We realized we just need a meal to sit down and be men with each other.
Now does this involve being vulgar, sick, and rude? No, it doesn’t. We are very respectful. We don’t make fun of other people, and we always clean up after ourselves and put tables back when we are done eating. But enough of that, let’s take a look at some more history of Man Lunch.
At first, Man Lunch really wasn’t the Man Lunch we know and love today. It was just a couple a guys sitting around talking about being a man and dealing with guy stuff. It wasn’t until we gained more members, did we really embrace the name “Man Lunch.”
Man Lunch began to grow, soon we had 6 people, then 8, then 10. Our record attendance for Man Lunch is 21 men…now that’s a lot of testosterone let me tell ya.
Last year is when Man Lunch took a very serious turn. We actually tried to become a club on Geneva’s Campus but we were shot down. Probably for the obvious reasons, like we were sexist (which we really aren’t. Women are very important, but sometimes we just need a time for men to be men and have Man Lunch.). But of course there are clubs that are for minorities, certain majors, and other stuff, but we can’t have a club called “Man Lunch.” You can’t say we weren’t prepared either. We had officers listed and names signed, we had an advisor, and we had a huge constitution written by our president himself, Mr. Nate MANsor. Still, in the end. We didn’t receive club status, but I guess it’s better that way. Now we don’t have any rules to follow except our own. Ha.
Man Lunch also received a Facebook fan page last year and it is still active with members and posts and what not. (You should check it out, MAN LUNCH!!! on fb).
Man Lunch has also picked up an official anthem. The Doxology (led by Ian Taylor), sung at an extremely low key, as we are all men, and after it we end our lunch with a chant of “MAN LUNCH!”
Contrary to some people’s beliefs, Man Lunch is a serious group composed of serious people. We have serious talks and we actually care about what goes on this campus. We are also strong Christians. We often talk about God and Christianity during Man Lunch, and we are trying to get in the habit of praying together before we have lunch. All in all, Man Lunch is dedicated to all those who are men, who want to spend time with their fellow men, and have a great time doing it.
So that’s it. A little history of Man Lunch. If you have any questions, visit us in the Brig on Thursdays at 12:30 or just message me, write on this blog, or write on the Man Lunch FB wall.
Thanks for reading!
Also, I have one last thing to say…..”NOW THERE’S A MAN!” (the official Man Lunch slogan.)
